It is with profound sadness that we mourn the passing of Amanda Feilding—a pioneer, and a guiding light in the exploration of human consciousness. Amanda was not only a trailblazer in psychedelic science but also a rare soul whose warmth, wisdom, and unwavering dedication touched countless lives.
For decades, Amanda championed the rigorous scientific study of psychedelics, transforming what was once a fringe interest into a respected field of research. Through the Beckley Foundation, she laid the groundwork for future generations, ensuring that the healing potential of these substances would be understood with clarity and compassion. Her legacy is one of courage, curiosity, and an unshakable belief in the power of love over fear.
Amanda was a founding member of our Medical Psychedelic Working Group and worked on many projects with our Founder - Professor David Nutt. She took part in our Women in Psychedelic Science series and the Drug Science Podcast.
Amanda had a unique gift for seeing the true essence of those she met. I was fortunate enough to experience this firsthand when we first spoke in 2017 at her home in Beckley Park. Over peppermint tea and a stroll through the gardens, she asked not about credentials or accolades, but about why—why psychedelics, why does this work matter to me. To her, intention was everything. She sought those driven by genuine care for humanity, not personal gain.
In the days since her passing, I found myself revisiting old messages from her. One voice note, in particular, has stayed with me:
“If only people were able to love more and worry less, the world would be a much better place to live.”
That was Amanda—pure in her conviction, boundless in her empathy. She embodied the belief that expanding human consciousness was not just a scientific pursuit but a spiritual one, rooted in kindness and a profound desire to alleviate suffering.
There will never be another like her. As we grieve her loss, we also celebrate her extraordinary life—a life that changed the world in ways we are only beginning to understand. Our deepest condolences go to her family, friends, colleagues at the Beckley Foundation, and all who were fortunate enough to love her as we did.
Rest in peace, Amanda. Your light will continue to shine through the countless lives you’ve touched and the future you helped shape.
